Q1: What are the funding sources of the Asian Barometer Survey?

A: Beginning as a research project funded by the Ministry of Education under the MOE-NSC Program for Promoting Academic Excellence of University, the ABS (then East Asia Barometer) has received resources from different agencies to support program activities and daily administration. Since 2003, the ABS has received regular funding support from Institute of Political Science, Academia Sinica. In 2005, the project was co-hosted by Program for East Asia Democratic Studies, under the auspice of the newly established Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences at National Taiwan University. The project was selected on the basis of its potential to boost the University's ranking among the world's top 100 and the first in Asia. Meanwhile, the project remains one of the core research projects sponsored by the Institute of Political Science, Academia Sincia. The ABS has also received substantial funding support from the Henry Luce Foundation and World Bank. Many country teams have secured funding support from national and international funding sources to cover their own fieldwork.

Q2: How can I get the data of ABS survey results?

A: The ABS survey data are freely accessible by the international social sciences community at large upon request. The released data include the surveys conducted in the first wave (2001-2003) in eight East Asian countries and the surveys conducted in the second wave (2005-2008) in thirteen countries and territories. Q3: What are the methods you take when conducting surveys?

A: The Asian Barometer Survey is modeled after the Globalbarometer Surveys (GBS), in that each survey country has to comply with the research protocols developed by the GBS.
