  • The Taipei International Conference and Planning Workshop 2008 (June 20-23, 2008)

    An international conference on "The State of Democratic Governance in Asia" was held in Taipei and a planning workshop ensued after the outreach. The Asia Foundation jointly held this event. Scholars of the Asian Barometer network presented papers concerning the state of democracy in the surveyed countries and the chllenges they face in governance. At the planning workshop, scholars continued discussing the second volume project, the research outcomes based on the second wave survey.

  • The Taipei International Conference and Planning Workshop 2007 ( August 9-12, 2007)

    An international conference on "Why Asians Support Democracy and Why Not?" was held in Taipei and a planning workshop ensued after the outreach. Thirteen papers were presented at the conference based on the results of the second wave survey. The topics discussed at the planning workshop included the questionnaire for the third wave survey and publication plan for the second book volume based on Asian Barometer Survey.

  • The Taipei Planning Workshop 2005 ( April 29-May 1, 2005)

    The second wave of the Asian Barometer survey will be launched in 2005. The purpose of the planning workshop was to determine several methods of standardizing the next round survey. The topics included sampling, question wording, questionnaire layout, survey techniques and management, and technical problems that might be encountered when analyzing data. A standardized questionnaire was finalized in the workshop, the module from which each nation team is to design its country questionnaire.

  • The Bangkok International Conferenhce and Planning Workshop (October 21-23, 2004)

    The 2004 planning workshop consisted of two activities. On October 21 an international conference, called ˇ§The State of Democracy in Asiaˇ¨ launched a forum for academics from various Asian countries to exchange ideas and to present survey results on attitude and value changes in the member countries. On the following two days, partners from the survey network discussed problems encountered in the first round survey (2001-2004). In addition, since the network is going to expand in the second wave, new partners from Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, and South Asia were invited to jointly collaborate on the new module of the Asian Barometer Survey.

  • The Taipei International Conference and Planning Workshop 2003 (December 8-11, 2003)

    An international conference and planning workshop for the East Asia Barometer was held in Taipei in 2003. The conference, titled ˇ§How East Asians View Democracy: The Region in Global Perspectiveˇ¨, was held to discuss research results of the East Asia Barometer. Based on results obtained from the surveys conducted in 2001-2002, each country team presented its citizensˇ¦ perceptions of democracy and its value to the country. Several technical problems were discussed in the planning workshop to improve the survey for the second wave.
